Biography

Visual Artist | Photographer | Curator | Cultural Theorist

Based in Barcelona

Guadalupe Plaza Petersen is an Argentine visual artist whose practice unfolds at the intersection of photography, contemporary art, ecological inquiry, and cultural theory. Operating from a transnational perspective shaped by extended study and professional engagement across Argentina, Spain, Italy, and Indonesia, her work articulates a poetic yet rigorous investigation into memory, territory, and the evolving dynamics between humanity and the living world.

Her artistic exploration spans photography, video, installation, and hybrid formats, and is grounded in a sustained conceptual engagement with the politics of representation, the poetics of landscape, and the emotional contours of the Anthropocene. Her critical lens navigates the delicate balance between intimate subjectivity and planetary imaginaries, inviting contemplative reflection on how we remember, inhabit, and transform the environments we share.

Plaza Petersen’s work has been featured in international contexts of cultural significance, including The Photographers’ Gallery, London; the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (MAC), Salta, Argentina; and galleries such as Blenda Gallery, Sofia (2025); Artesta Gallery, Sofia; Stopwatch Gallery; and Saatchi Art. In 2025 she was the subject of a major profile in Art & Gulf Magazine (Dubai), titled “Weaving Memory, Ecology and Art in the Anthropocene,” which situates her practice within contemporary debates on art, nature, and technology. Art&Gulf Magazine

Her forthcoming publication in Art Journal, curated by Derek Murray, further positions her work within contemporary critical discourse — reflecting her ongoing engagement with theories of ecology, perception, and visual culture.

Plaza Petersen has been recognized with prestigious grants and residencies, including the Darmasiswa Fellowship (Indonesia) and support from the OSDE Foundation (Argentina). Her work is included in the MAC Collection (Salta, Argentina) and continues to evolve through ongoing research, exhibition projects, and editorial collaborations.

Driven by a commitment to conceptual depth and visual sensitivity, her practice investigates how image-making can articulate forms of ecological and existential understanding, and how art might respond to urgent cultural and environmental transformations.
